Misc. Eats January
01-05-18: Tere’s Mexican Grill – Phill was still recovering form his illness, but had a hankering for some tacos, so we tried this place down the street in Studio City. Not too bad.
01-12-18: Sumo Dog – Last day at work (thank goodness) meant going out for lunch. I missed the last time everyone went to Sumo Dog, and with a temporary hotdog, the “Nancy Dog” from chef Nancy Silverton made it all the more appealing.
01-13-18: Fat Dog – Went out for a casual bite to eat as DineLA kicks off. Phill had the burger, I had the pork belly sandwich, and we shared this beet hummus, which is definitely worth getting.
01-14-18: Smorgasburg LA – First trip to Smorgasburg this year for their re-opening after Winter Break. I was craving mandu from Workaholic, so we got the beef, chicken and mushroom ones.
Phill got the chicken sandwich from Bahn Oui, which was the right amount of spicy.
And it wouldn’t be a trip to Smorgasburg without dessert, so we shared a dole whip.
01-20-18: Bossa Nova – We had a casual dinner out in Hollywood to celebrate Phill’s mom’s birthday. I had the Bossa Nova sandwich, which is always a safe bet.
01-26-18: Barrel & Ashes – Friday night dinner and Phill was in the mood for a chicken sandwich, so off to Barrel & Ashes we went. I had the Tri-Tip sandwich, which I had before, and enjoyed it, although not as much as my first time. That seems to be a recurring theme with Barrel & Ashes — not enjoying it as much as the previous trip.
01-27-18: Joe’s Falafel – Phill and I finally checked out the nearby Mediterranean joint and popular entry on the Valley’s best list, Joe’s Falafel, for a takeout dinner. I opted for the Lemon Chicken plate which was loaded with lots of chicken and the lemon honey mustard sauce. Not bad, but nobody can do rice like the Halal Guys.
01-31-18: Sweetfin Poke: Lunch with coworkers in Larchmont. Pricy, but sometimes it’s worth it, like today’s large bowl.
