With Jeremy off to Vegas to visit his college buddy, it was a quiet time at home for me, which meant I went to the movies a bunch — seeing 10 Cloverfield Lane, Eye in the Sky and Allegiant.
I also made up for not celebrating Pi Day by getting a couple of pies from Atticus Creamery and Pies.
First up was the blueberry cheesecake pie, which was delicious and lighter than I thought it would be. The crust was much better than other pie shop’s (*cough* Republic of Pie *cough*) and the little bit of blueberry jam at the base was a nice surprise.
The banana coconut pie had strawberries at the base and was equally good. Again light enough to make me not feel guilty for eating these two pies in two days.
Despite having the place to myself I wasn’t completely anti-social, meeting up with Chris and Cristina in Manhattan Beach at Love & Salt for brunch on Sunday. We split some of their thick lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberries. The lemon cream in between the cakes was delicious.
Cristina also had an order of their thick, almost pork belly bacon which was delicious too.
And since I hiked up the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook twice this morning I was hungry and ordered the Bucatini pasta, freshly made. The sausage was so strong and the kale mixed in nicely with it all. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Chris and Cristina so it was good hanging out with them, and nice to return to Manhattan Beach. I swear sometimes I forget people out here have kids and that there are actual families, but trips to Manhattan Beach with the strollers everywhere and kids running around, remind me that they do exist.
Anyway it was a good two day break from the craziness of the pilot that I’m working on, so hopefully it’ll give me the energy to survive another week…
